Board

A board of directors was appointed in 2010.  This group advices the foundation on many decisions.  The board members were appointed based on both their business experience as well as passion for the mission of the foundation.

Mike Furrey  – Mike is the Foundation’s namesake.  Entering his 8th NFL season, Mike is fully emerged in the foundations efforts.  Besides his on the field achievements, Mike is most proud of and humble by his recognition for his off-the field achievements.  He was named the 2009 Ed Block Courage Award Winner for the Cleveland Browns and was also voted as one of the three finalists in the NFL for the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Koren Furrey – Along with Mike and Alicia, they run the day to day operations of the foundation.  Koren graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in economics.  She has worked for Ashland Chemical and Ford Motor Company.  Her experience in the business world, along with her “love language” for service, allows her to push the foundation to the next level.

Alicia Maynard – Alicia is the foundation’s executive director.  She has worked for the foundation for two years and has helped implement and execute all of the foundation’s current programs.  She came to the foundation with experience from Borden and Ashland Chemical.  She has a bachelor of science degree from Fairmont State College, where she also played varsity volleyball for four years.

Mary Jo Hahn – Mary Jo earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Central Michigan University.  She has held numerous positions in the hospitality industry including assistant food service director at Cranbrook Educational Community.  For the past 20 years Mary Jo has enjoyed numerous volunteer opportunities.  She was a member of the junior league of Lancaster, PA as well as a board member of the Georgetown Homeowners Association.  She is active in her children’s school and church.  Mary Jo and her husband John have been married 21 year and have three daughters.

Jon Coleman – Jon has worked in sales and marketing and corporate strategy at Ford for the past 16 years.  He and his wife, Cindy, live in Saline, MI.  In addition to work at Ford, Jon is on the faculty at the University of Michigan in Dearborn and at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland teaching organizational behavior, strategy and research methods.  He is very active engaging corporations and communities in the development of sustainable strategies such as water usage, human rights and personal mobility.

Ryan Traver – Ryan is owner of BluFish Consulting LLC, a full service marketing and advertising agency based out of Marshall, MI.  His clientele has included Muhammad Ali Enterprises, Kellogg’s, and numerous others.  He currently serves as a City Council Representative for his hometown as well as the Downtown Development Authority to name just two.  Ryan has coordinated numerous charity events and has really enjoyed helping worthy causes.  Ryan is very active and has completed three marathons in the past five years.  He plays in several basketball leagues each year and really enjoys a good game of ping-pong.

Mark McDonald – Dr. McDonald is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.  He is a graduate of Ball State University, where he played football, and The Ohio State University College of Medicine.  Dr. McDonald completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky.  He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopy and is the president of the medical staff.  Dr. McDonald serves as the team physician for Bluffton University and the high school he attended, Lima Senior High School.

Andy Bailey – Andy is a relationship manager and vice president for the Private Financial Group at Huntington Bank.  He has worked at Huntington for 22 years.  He graduated from The Ohio State University with a business and marketing degree.   Andy currently resides on Dublin, OH with his wife of 22 years, Molly, and their seven-year-old daughter, Hannah.  He is a member of St. Brigid Church, loves spending time with family and friends, volunteering in the community, jogging, exercise and reading.

Paul Pardi – Paul currently works on real estate development and reposition projects for Nationwide Real Estate Investments.  He is a graduate of Cornell University with a major in applied economics and management.  He enjoys coaching the St. Andrew’s middle school team as well as volunteering for the Columbus Landmarks Foundation (treasurer), Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and  Young Bankers.

Mike Beck – Mike Beck is the President of HBC Contracting, a general and environmental contracting company with offices in both Lansing and Battle Creek, MI.  Mike has been serving people since a young age when he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard.  He then joined the City of Battle Creek Fire Department where he served for over eight years.  Since leaving the department to pursue a career in the hazardous material remediation field with HBC, Mike has endlessly donated his time, talents, and treasures to many local needs of his community where he makes a difference, both big and small, in people’s lives.  Mike generously supports the American Cancer Society, BCHS Cancer Care Center, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and Community Inclusive Recreation among several other charitable causes.

Joel Maynard – Joel has a bachelor of science degree in management and marketing from Fairmont State College.  He also has a computer science degree from Devry University.  He currently is a data solution manager for Grange Insurance.  He is married to Alicia and they have three children, Hunter, Chase and Karsyn.  They attend St. James Lutheran Church in Hilliard.  His hobbies include golf, basketball, and attending his kids’ activities.

Kristy Jewell – Kristy is a full-time mom living in Canton, MI with her husband of 19 years, Jeff, and their three young boys.  She has a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and taught elementary students in Katy, Texas.  She also worked as a volunteer coordinator for Wichita’s Promise, a branch of Gen. Colin Powell’s America’s Promise, as the liaison between several nonprofit agencies that specifically benefited youth.  Kristy is an active member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church and has a wholehearted belief that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, our Savior and Lord.

Forrest Odend’hal – Forrest is a licensed real estate agent from Manassas, VA who also has a passion for football and youth.  He competed on the football team for four years at Salem College where he graduated with a criminal justice degree.  He served on the police force in Manassas from 1985-1999.  He enjoys supporting his community and organizations that help the less fortunate.

Branden Joe – Branden was born in Columbus, OH and still resides in the area today.  He attended The Ohio State University where he still holds many Ohio State Football strength and conditioning records and was the starting fullback and an integral member of the 2002 National Championship team.  Branden’s dedication to the community is very prevalent with charities such as the Ronald McDonald house, a Kid Again Foundation, Circle of Friends Foundation, Nationwide Children’s Hospital charitable organization and of course the Mike Furrey Foundation.  Branden currently serves as a territory manager for a global medical sales company that focuses on the practice of sports medicine, orthopedic surgeons and their patients.

Saji T. Daniel – Saji Is the president and CEO of Tradex International Inc., a leading supplier of disposable gloves to the food services, medical, janitorial and industrial markets.  Daniel was born and raised in India in impoverished surroundings, where he lived until the age of 14.  After graduating from Collinwood High School in Cleveland, OH, Daniel attended Cleveland State University while working delivering newspapers and other jobs to pay tuition and support his family.  He graduated with a degree in business administration determined to pursue his American Dream.  In 1988, amidst growing public concern of HIV/AIDS, Daniel founded Tradex International, selling medical gloves door to door to doctors and dentists.  The company shifted its focus to the food service industry in 1995 in anticipation of stricter food safety requirements.  Today, with offices around the world, Tradex International is one of the largest suppliers of disposable gloves in the United States.  From his humble beginnings, Daniel’s phenomenal success has received numerous accolades.  In 2009, Daniel was bestowed Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.  The year prior, Tradex was recognized as an Inc. 5000 company and Daniel accepted an invitation to the White House as owner of one of the nation’s fastest ground Asian-American businesses.

Rick Smith – With more than 24 years of professional industry experience, Rick has leased, sold or acquired more than 3.8 million square feet of office, retail, industrial and warehouse space.  He has executed real estate transactions totaling more than $500 million, which includes land acquisitions and development.  In August of 2009, Rick created his own Dublin-based commercial brokerage company called Smith Realty Partners, LLC.  His desire is to continue providing clients the most advanced professional level of commercial real estate services.  A graduate of The Ohio State University, Rick served as Captain of the OSU men’s basketball team in 1979.  He was awarded the John Havlicek Most Inspirational Player award in that same year.  Continuing his affiliation with Ohio State, he served as graduate assistant coach for the 1980 season and remains involved with the program as past president of the OSU Athletic Alumni Association and a current board member.  In addition, he served on the selection committee that chose The Ohio State’s men’s basketball coach, Thad Matta.  Rick and his wife, Lori, reside in Dublin with their three daughters, Kayleigh, Anessa and Cassady.
